As the Federal Government Shutdown continues to impact working families across our state, the Montana AFL-CIO is teaming up with Montana Food Bank Network to highlight the critical support that food banks provide our communities.
"Thousands of federal workers continue to go without pay adding to food insecurity and anxiety for workers in all of our communities," said Montana AFL-CIO Executive Secretary Jason Small. “As we continue to call on Congress to get people back to work and ensure that our healthcare is funded through the ACA tax credits, we want to highlight and support all of the resources available to workers during this unprecedented time. Food banks across our state are doing important work to bring attention to food insecurity and provide support to hard working Montana families.”
Montana Food Bank Network includes more than 330 partner organizations across Montana, including community food banks. Every $1 donated to the Montana Food Bank Network helps provide at least 4 meals to Montana families.
“Tens of thousands of Montana families are at risk of losing access to food in November due to the ongoing federal government shutdown,” said Montana Food Bank Network President and CEO Gayle Carlson. “Over 77,000 Montanans—including more than 31,000 children—remain without access to their November SNAP benefits as the need for food assistance grows. Whether you donate money to the Montana Food Bank Network or donate food directly to your local food bank, you will be making a big difference in addressing food insecurity in Montana.”
